Guest reviews for all our small group escapes. These are independent written by people who have been on our tours. If you're thinking about booking one of our tours and would like to talk to someone who's done one please get in touch and we'd be happy to put you in touch with one of our guests.
A very enjoyable 6 days with many highlights, lots of fun and pleasant company. The lunches and garden walks each day were a real treat and far more enjoyable than queuing in a cafe. The timing of each day worked very well with sufficient coffee, comfort stops and stops for points of interest. 18 people on the bus was a good number - there weren't too many people to get off and then waiting for them all to get back on. I certainly felt looked after.
Am reporting in to say what a GREAT trip I had with MoaTours. I would rate it as 100% and I’ve done a few tours mainly out of NZ. Originally, when I booked I felt the amount I paid seemed such a lot for 6 days, however, at the end I felt it was worth every single cent. To be picked up/dropped off back home is absolutely stressless, The accommodation was superb – I’m certainly not used to staying in such posh places so appreciated it even more and the food was just great. The stunning manor houses we visited for lunches and the dinners at night were faultless.
Our guide Matt was so so professional and that I felt was the most important factor on the whole trip. The mix of people was so good and everyone got on so well together…18 is just the right number.

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip with your company, we had a good bunch aboard. Our guide Matt was really good value, he kept things moving at a good pace, his accounts of historical and topical things of the areas we visited and passed through were top notch, the quizzes were a great source of hilarity at times, I’m sure the rest of the crowd hadn’t eaten so many sweets in a long time. Our accommodation was great, and the houses, gardens and lunches were super, I really appreciated their catering to my dietary needs. We all made the same comment of ‘how do you find these places’, as they all were very different, and very enjoyable. We thought the WOW show was terrific and our seats were spot on. The meals were all good, special mention though for the Scenic Hotel, the staff couldn’t have been more helpful, and the Dockside, although they were pushed to the limit, the maître d’ (I presume) made a special point of correcting my pre-order mistaken choice, was certainly impressed by that.
Many thanks for providing us with a memorable 6 days.

The other 16 people on our tour were all so bright and we had much fun. Matt our driver was excellent and had many quizzes with lollies for prizes. The accommodation was 5 star. The places for our stopover lunches, mostly at heritage homes were unbelievable. I loved their homes and the people. The WOW show was just as good as I was told about. Overall the tour was excellent. (from Coralie)
The World of WearableArt Awards Show blew us away and the accommodation was faultless. Visiting Napier was a real thrill seeing the video of the earthquake and the drive around Napier was eventful. (from Philip)
I would recommend MoaTours to older members of my family and friends, great company, no hassles, excellent accommodation and interesting stops. Prices are always higher when there is a small group, but this was accounted for when we saw the excellent standard of accommodations, excellent seats at WOW etc. Would rather pay a bit more to have the smaller group and the ease of being picked up and delivered home.
I enjoyed visiting the various homes for our lunch stops, places that I didn't know existed and having the access to these venues. I appreciated the ease of going to WOW being dropped off so close when walking is an issue and bags delivered and collected from our rooms.

We were planning to do our own touring in this region, but didn't fancy driving those long distances. Loved climbing up to Cape Palliser Lighthouse followed by fish and chips at Lake Ferry. Peter was engineer in the merchant navy and was thrilled with story of the fell engine at Featherston. I think if we left him he'd still be there. The guide, accommodation and meals were all excellent and the tour was excellent value overall.
Thoroughly enjoyed everything about the tour and its easy pace. It is difficult to choose a favourite as they were many and varied, but I particularly liked the garden visits where we had lunch provided by our hosts. Really enjoyed Stonehenge Aotearoa, Cape Palliser and visiting the small towns in the Wairarapa where I had never been before. It was nice to have the three day stay at Brackenridge where our cottage was superb. Our travelling companions were an interesting, friendly group and it was lovely to have our guide Chris look after us and get us safely around the country. He was very pleasant, friendly and helpful - all the things a good guide should be. Any problems, he sorted them out. Thank you Chris! I would certainly recommend Moa Tours.
My favourite activities were the trip to the Hole in the Rock, lunch at the Duke of Marlborough, Cape Reinga on Christmas Day, lunch in Whangarei and the visit to Waitangi. Our guide Sean was a very helpful young man with plenty of local knowledge, he did his very best to accommodate any requests we had and went out of his way at times. Also a very safe and capable driver.
All three hotels were very comfortable, especially the beds. The waterfront rooms were a real treat and access to rooms was easy. The lunches were excellent and in well chosen places. A very comfortable coach with good air conditioning and easy access for getting in and out.made the trip all the more pleasant. No worries about anything. Food and loo stops were provided for us and apart from drinks in the evening money was rarely needed.
This was my first MoaTour and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Our guide made sure we were well looked after and made a real effort to get to know us all. Hotels were in wonderful waterfront positions and we met some interesting people in the group.
I am a devoted fan of MoaTours! The company and its personnel give excellent value for money and this particular Xmas trip was really enjoyable probably because I knew a few of the travellers from previous trips but the sights we saw and participated in were first class. Our guide Sean was unfailingly polite, helpful and good humoured.
My favourite thing about travelling with MoaTours is not having to think! I particulaly enjoyed and appreciated going to Cape Reinga, the tour around Pompallier House was excellent, ditto Waitangi and the bird sanctuary at Whangarei. As I opted not to do the "Hole in the Rock" I loved having the day in Russell to wander around and enjoy it. The Matakohe Museum is always so interesting - a real winner, together with the gannets at Muriwai.
I enjoyed the smaller group tour so would do another one. Good to go with a friend and share experiences. I enjoyed seeing a part of NZ I had never been to and going on a tour was very good value. It was wonderful to get picked up and brought home without having to worry. Our guide Richard was extremely courteous and considerate of all passengers. His thoughtfulness on Christmas Day while we were travelling to Picton for lunch was exceptional - I mean to say who expected delectable cherries and mince pies to be passed around the bus.
